PLEASE JOIN US THURSDAY, MAY 16, 2019, at Brewvies Cinema Pub for a screening of the documentary, RBG, a documentary on the life and career of the second female Supreme Court Justice, Ruth Bader Ginsburg.

The documentary will be followed by a CLE led by Professors Clifford Rosky and RonNell Anderson Jones regarding a number of compelling cases currently before the U.S. Supreme Court this term, incluidng several Title VII cases analyzing whether Title VII prohibits discrimination based on sexual orientation or based on gender identity.

Clifford Rosky is Professor of Law at the University of Utah’s S.J. Quinney College of Law, where he teaches courses on constitutional law, criminal law, sexuality and law, and mindfulness and law. Rosky's recent scholarship includes "Anti-Gay Curriculum Laws," "Scrutinizing Immutability," "Same-Sex Marriage and Children's Right to Be Queer,” and "Still Not Equal: A Report from the Red States.” He is a two-time recipient of the Dukeminier Award, which recognizes the best legal scholarship on sexual orientation and gender identity published each year. In addition, he has received several awards for his teaching and service. In recent years, Rosky has served as the primary author and advocate for SB 296 (2015), SB 196 (2017), and SB 103 (2019), Utah laws that protect LGBT people from discrimination in education, employment, housing, and hate crimes. In addition, Rosky's recent article in the Columbia Law Review provided the foundation for Equality Utah v. Utah State Board of Education and Equality Arizona v. Hoffman, the country's first lawsuits successful challenging the constitutionality of statewide anti-gay curriculum laws.

Professor RonNell Andersen Jones is an Affiliated Fellow at Yale Law School’s Information Society Project and the Lee E. Teitelbaum Endowed Chair and Professor of Law at the University of Utah S.J. Quinney College of Law. A former newspaper reporter and editor, Professor Jones is a First Amendment scholar who teaches, researches and writes on legal issues affecting the press and on the intersection between media and the courts, with a particular emphasis on the United States Supreme Court. Her scholarship addresses issues of press access and transparency and the role of the press as a check on government. She is also a widely cited national expert on reporter’s privilege and newsgathering rights and a regular speaker on emerging areas of social media law. Her scholarly work has appeared in numerous books and journals, including Northwestern Law Review, Michigan Law Review, UCLA Law Review, Minnesota Law Review, and the Harvard Law Review Forum. She is also a regular public commentator on press freedom issues. Her op-eds have been published in several major news outlets, including CNN and The New York Times, and her research has been quoted in Newsweek, the Washington Post, the New York Times and other national publications.
